Litter and Pollution

Title

Litter and Pollution

Subject

Puerto Rico
Hurricane Maria

Description

A human-created sustainability problem. The aftermath of some festivals in Puerto Rico mirror that of the US, with debris, litter and pollution created en masse and left behind for municipal workers to deal with. Not all of the litter will be found and cleaned up by these municipal workers and some will end up remaining left on the ground, eventually running into the streams and rivers, and ultimately into the ocean. This is a problem that sustainability and environmental activists and educators are working to address, though much work is still needed in this area.
